Surreal Estate: Living the Castle Lifestyle in Sarasota, Florida
Your Home Is Your Castle
Modern homes just can’t compete with the drama, romance, and elegance of an ancient castle. So many houses are function-over-form. Sure, they’re comfortable, and livable, but are they inspiring? Do they make you wake up feeling ready to ride into battle? Not so much.
That’s why 1608 Hudson Pointe Drive in Sarasota, FL is so special. It has all the breathtaking grandeur of a medieval castle, plus every modern convenience you could ask for in a luxury home. Not only that, but it’s located mere minutes from the heart of downtown Sarasota, Florida.
Make a Royal Entrance
Castles were designed to be luxurious, but they were also built with defense in mind. In the modern era, we’re less likely to be disturbed by marauders, but most of us have had a perfectly lovely dinner interrupted by a canvasser or salesperson.
Now, we admire their ambition, but we prefer our privacy. That’s why we love the fact that the entry to this home is protected by a gatehouse, just like the royal castles of yore.
Of course, it isn’t just built for keeping undesirables out. It’s also perfect for making your every arrival seem like cause for fanfare, and for welcoming visiting guests in truly royal fashion.
Beyond the wrought-iron gate of the gatehouse, there’s a wonderful swimming pool designed to look like a moat. There’s even a drawbridge to allow for easy passage into the main house. Use it as a swimming pool or buy some alligators to put in there – it’s totally up to you. We’re sure you can find some in Florida of all places, but make sure your insurance will cover that sort of thing.
The grand foyer located just beyond the main entrance doubles as a formal dining room, and while that’s a somewhat unusual choice, in this case, it totally works.
Let’s talk about the room itself for a moment – it’s one of this home’s most striking features. Hand-painted Moorish arches and Corinthian columns surround the long, elegant dining table. Overhead, antique chandeliers and tasteful recessed lighting cast the room in a warm glow. The ceiling has been deftly painted with a striking, courtly motif, and dazzlingly intricate stained glass windows give the room an almost hallowed atmosphere.
At the end of this great hall, you’ll find a raised chef’s kitchen that overlooks the festivities from a commanding perch. It’s equipped with the very latest in high-end kitchen appliances, and has everything you need for preparing your latest culinary masterpiece.
It’s really the perfect setup for the consummate socialite who insists on serving only the best to their dinner guests. Of course, you can always hire a chef if you’d prefer being served.
After dinner, you and your honored guests can retire to the formal living room, with its elegant paneled walls, stone fireplace, regal sconces, and gorgeous woodwork. If there’s a better way to spend an evening than curled up next to a roaring fire in this grand parlor, we certainly can’t imagine what it is.
The Royal Suite
This spellbinding estate has four bedrooms in all, but as the ruler of the castle, the most enviable one will be all yours. Situated in its own tower, this royal roost offers the utmost privacy and seclusion, and it’s as spacious as can be.
The walls are painted to look like the inside of a knight’s tent, which is sort of over-the-top, but certainly in keeping with the overall theme. There’s a private fireplace, a sitting room, and a master bath, featuring one of the most gorgeous Tiffany-inspired light fixtures we’ve ever seen. Just look at it!
Indulge Your Adventurous Side!
Is this home a bit excessive? Well, perhaps not in scale, but in sheer panache? Absolutely. But there are far worse afflictions than having too much style. If you’ve got the moxie, then why not strut your stuff? Call your banker. You have a castle to buy.
