by Jackie FogartieMay 13, 2016

Spring has sprung and summer is right around the corner which means that it is prime time for outdoor gatherings and meals with friends. Here are some tips and a super easy DIY project great Spring or Summer tablescapes and get-togethers!

Keep it casual: spring and especially summer get-togethers have a more casual vibe and dress code that is suitable for flip flops and shorts opposed to high heels and dresses! Melamine plates are perfect for the outdoor, casual entertainer. The hard plastic material resembles china plates and comes in many colors and patterns. They won’t break if dropped and can be easily wiped off and thrown in the dishwasher! Keeping with the casual theme, use silver looking “silverware” found at Costco or Party City and just toss them at the end of the night!

Extra touches: Add some additional prettiness like flowers for the centerpiece and place big blooms on each plate. Faux blooms from craft stores can even be take-home party favors! Fun place cards are another way to add a special wow factor to your table, like this real lemon place card. Simply cut out a piece of paper, write your guest names on it and fasten to a toothpick. Stick into the lemon and you have a unique place card!

Easy Place-mat DIYs: I’m all about cheap and easy DIYs any time of year, but these place-mat ideas are perfect for outdoor tablescapes!

Chalkboard Placemat

Purchase a roll of chalkboard paper from a specialty paper store like Paper Source or Amazon. Cut out a rectangular place-mat shape and label each place-mat with your guests’ names using chalk or a chalkboard marker. This DIY acts not only as a place card but can also be a perfect distraction for young children if paired with different colored chalk for them to color with! chalkboard place mat_

Kraft paper place-mat

Rolls of kraft paper can also be found online at Amazon or at paper stores. Use stamps to decorate the edges of the place mats or decorative punches to cut out fun shapes. A wide variety of stamps and punches can be found at craft stores like Michael’s.
