#FeelsLikeHome Scholarship Winner
At Homes.com, we know the importance of finding the perfect place to call “home.” One of the most difficult parts of going to college can be making your college home feel as comfortable as your home! To make that transition easier, we wanted to award a $1,000 scholarship to one highly-motivated student to help cover some of their college expenses.
The rules for the scholarship were simple: the participants had to snap a photo and write a description detailing how they’ve made — or plan to make — their college experience feel like their own personal home away from home.
With over 700 entries, our judges had a tough time picking a winner from the many wonderful pictures and stories submitted.
After much deliberation, however, the final winner of our 2017 #FeelsLikeHome scholarship contest was Sarrah Hussain! Sarrah is a Freshman at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She plans on furthering her education in medicine and hopefully becoming a surgeon. Congratulations Sarrah!
Her caption reads:
“Going to college means experiencing a great deal of new things but also having to leave a whole lot behind. As an artist, what makes college a home away from home for me is not only photographs that capture the beautiful and hilarious memories I’ve shared with my friends, but creating paintings of people and places that are important and dear to my friends and me. These things, no matter where I take them and hang them, remind me of my wonderfully small hometown and childhood memories, and make any new place just a little more familiar and homely❤️ #FeelsLikeHome”
Additional notes left by Sarrah stated:
“Receiving this scholarship would help me so much. I hope to attend medical school and become a surgeon one day, so I have 12+ years of education ahead of me to pay for, and so every dollar I can get really does count. Again thank you for considering me for this amazing scholarship!”
The judges felt that Sarrah used her artistic ability to vividly illustrate how she was going to transform her college living space into her own hometown oasis.
Senior Manager of Online Marketing, David Hoegerman, felt Sarrah’s entry stood out from the rest because of her aesthetic content, well-written explanation, and the overall execution of her submission. He stated, “Even though Sarrah hadn’t officially started college at the time of her submission, she still had a wonderful plan for how she wanted to make her space feel like home.”
Home truly is where the heart is!
Congratulations, Sarrah! We wish you the best in all your future endeavors!
