Curl Up With This Season’s Must-Have Fabrics
We’re all about fabric this season, as winter calls for unlimited layers of warmth and all-things-cozy. Cotton, velvet, and denim are having a design moment right now. Look to these textiles to combat the chill without compromising your style.
Cotton is a classic ingredient in any casual look. Its softness and breathability makes it an uber comfortable fabric for throws and bedding. Known for its wash-a-million-times durability, cotton is also commonly used for slipcovers. Cotton dining room chair covers are especially useful when hosting holiday gatherings.
Can cotton be used as a formal fabric though? The answer is in the way it’s woven. Damask cotton, for example, is a big step up from casual. Its stately patterns look elegant on curtains, pillows and rugs.

Although its counterparts in the fashion industry were never forgotten, velvet has made an impressive comeback to the interior design scene. Designers like to think big when they incorporate velvet. A luxurious sofa, a sensuous chaise lounge or a bold headboard can really ramp up a room’s design one piece at a time.
If you’d rather start small, frame your view with velvet drapes. Floor-to-ceiling curtains in a dark and moody hue would be a striking contrast to the snow white winter landscape beyond the glass.
Get the Look
Our final fabric might be the most fun on the list. Denim has been cropping up in unexpected places lately. Although our bedroom floors may be frequently decorated in denim, as our favorite pair of jeans are never far from reach, we’ve also seen an intentional design move toward faded blue bedding.
Chairs and counter stools have also been spotted sporting denim upholstery and giving rooms the lived-in look that makes a house feel like a home.
Area rugs made from recycled denim add a ton of texture to a room. Give one a try if your room is feeling too sterile or if your decor has fallen flat.
