Turns Out It’s Not Simply Impossible to Put a Value on a Celebrity’s Home
If you need a moment to Google Perry Como before continuing the article, that’s cool – we’ll be here when you get back. Television personality, film actor, and powerhouse singer: it’s a rare combination these days. But, back in the early- to mid-twentieth century, it was pretty commonplace for the big stars to sing, act, dance, and do just about everything else. Crooner Perry Como was one of the greats.
Como’s career spanned multiple decades, beginning with a stint in a 1930s big band. Later, he went on to record several hit records for the RCA Victor label, many of which went gold (so many, that he quit having them certified). He appeared in multiple films and on several television programs during the height of his fame.
Como also garnered five Emmys, a Peabody Award (shared with Jackie Gleason), and multiple others, including a Kennedy Center Honor. The star passed in 2001 at the age of 88, and he lived in a house on Long Island for some time prior to relocating to Florida in the 1970s. That house is on the market again, and if you have the nearly $3 million asking price, it could be yours.
A Home for a Falling Star a Bit Bigger than a Pocket
This six-bedroom, five-bath home in Sands Point, New York has a timeless kind of class to it that has to be seen to be understood. The property has several large entertaining spaces, multiple fireplaces, and quite a few dining spots, including an elegant formal dining room with gleaming hardwood floors and a green marble fireplace. There’s also a dedicated home office, and a gorgeous in-ground pool with a Hollywood-style cabana.
All of this, and the property sits just off the Long Island Sound within easy reach of New York City. Many of the rooms have white carpeting, hardwood floors, or some combination of the two. The wall coverings and window treatments in several of the home’s rooms are tastefully loud, if there is such a thing.
One room even has mirrored wallpaper on the walls and ceiling, while another has matching orange and brown floral print wallpaper (and ceiling paper) and window treatments.
Grounds for Your Magic Moments
Manicured grounds are not for everyone. But with so many mature trees and so much beautiful, meticulously maintained grass, this is a home built for entertaining large groups of people.
Did we fail to mention the flowerbeds and the other ornamental plantings throughout the grounds? What about the outdoor entertaining areas and patios both near the house and around the pool? Don’t forget: this was once the home of one of America’s most popular entertainers, built to entertain large groups for a pool party, a backyard barbecue, or a special occasion.
A Home for the Good Times
This home, in the right hands, could easily be converted into a bed and breakfast, an event space for weddings and conferences, or both. As an investment, it has matured just the right amount, even though its luster as the former home of a big star has faded in recent years. Regardless, the potential of the property’s location and its complete package of amenities has only driven its value skyward. Are you ready to make the leap?
