Decor trends aren’t the only things that get to have fun each year, simpler things such as interior colors can help in making your home trendy a lot easier. What’s trending in color and the ever coveted “Color of the Year” gets the full on pomp and circumstance treatment from all of the big brand paint companies– and for good reason. For 2020, some of the colors have us singing the blues while others are taking us back to nature, and we are just tickled pink.
Ever wonder where the yearly spotlight on trending interior colors originated? Pantone started this by highlighting their favorite color almost 20 years ago and since then, other popular paint companies have started to followed suit. Pantone 19-4052, Classic Blue, was the selection for 2020, and it is a show stopper. Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, Laurie Pressman, told TIME in a recent interview about their Color of the Year selection. Ms. Pressman stated that, “It’s a reassuring blue, full of calm and confidence. It builds connection.”
Also giving a nod to blue, is Sherwin Williams and their Naval SW-6244 Color of the Year Selection. A rich color like navy hasn’t been seen before. Sherwin Williams states that “This deep shade evokes a prominent sense of confidence that fuses timeless color with a fresh mix of natural materials and textures that bring navy blue into a new era.” As an added bonus, Sherwin Williams also provided coordinating colors that compliment their Color of the Year selection.
Going back to our roots, Behr has chosen Back To Nature S340-4. A soothing green that is “a restorative and revitalizing green hue that engages the senses and pairs well with other colors both inside and outside your home.” Along with this earthy green, Behr offers a color palette inspired by all things found in nature.
Valspar listened to what the consumers wanted and while Valspar didn’t pick just one color to focus on, they too focused on bringing the outdoors in with their nature inspired color selections. In an interview with Sue Kim, Valspar Color Marketing Manager at Sherwin-Williams, “Earth’s prescription for the chaotic, busy lives we all live is to bring the tranquility of nature and the outdoor world into the home.”
Last, but certainly not least, Benjamin Moore highlights First Light 2102-70 to introduce their light and fresh 2020 palette for the new decade. The colors have both a vibrant and calming quality, which is much appreciated and should definitely be celebrated.
Even if you’re not ready to paint your whole house any of the list of colors highlighted this year, you can still add in any of these colors within your existing decor. Find a color that inspires you and will go well with your space. Then pull it in through pillows, a fun lamp, or even curtains. These colors were all thoughtfully selected to create a feeling and a mood, which is so important to make your home feel like the sanctuary you deserve.
