History and a vibrant Downtown anchor Brea
Brea, which means tar in Spanish, gets its name from the black oil found here that pushed the early development of this metropolis at the turn of the 20th century. Located at the foothills of Puente Hills just north of Anaheim, the city showcases the area’s distinct art and history. Once an epicenter during the oil boom, the southwestern California enclave is now home to trendy restaurants and cafes, award-winning schools, and a thriving community. “Downtown Brea has a lot of energy,” says Realtor Sheila Buonauro of TNG Real Estate Consultants, who has lived in Brea since 1987. “Most people love Brea because of its family-oriented and open community, school system and convenient accessibility to the rest of California.”

Diverse dining and a central shopping mall
An eclectic mix of trendy restaurants and local boutiques interlace with cultural entertainment options in Brea’s vibrant downtown district along Brea Boulevard and Birch Street. Diverse dining options line the district, with standouts like Old Brea Chop House, an upscale steakhouse in the middle of downtown. Taste of Brea is a summer food festival that celebrates the city’s many eateries. “Randolph Boulevard closes down for vendors, music and all the restaurants,” Buonauro says. “It’s a celebration of food and community.” Apart from local establishments and boutiques downtown, residents can also fulfill their shopping needs at the Brea Mall, a centrally located shopping center with name brands like Macy’s and JCPenney.
A variety of shops and restaurants can be found throughout Brea.
