Canton, Georgia, is the county seat of Cherokee County, Georgia. Through the center of the city from east to west flows the beautiful Etowah River. The name was changed to Canton in 1834 to match the name of the Chinese city which is now named Guangzhou. The city was to be a center of the silk industry, a dream that never fully took root, though Canton is now a successful manufacturing community. Spacious three and four bedroom developments adorn this city, providing colorful modern designs as well as more traditional floorplans.
All the neighborhoods in the area can enjoy the outdoor environment of Heritage Park, a 30-acre park with a natural amphitheater and many trails for pedestrians and bikers. There are several different communities to choose from. Closest to the heart of Canton is City Center, where a variety of medium to large size homes can be found. Having been established in the 70’s, the neighborhood has a unique historic charm. At the west end of Canton is the neighborhood known as Laffingal. The homes here, being of at least three bedrooms, are all quite large, and some even go past five bedrooms. Laffingal is rated as one of the best neighborhoods for families in Georgia. In South Canton can be found more small and medium sized homes, as well as some apartments and high-rises. There is higher housing availability here than in other local neighborhoods.
