North Linden is one of Columbus’ fastest-growing neighborhoods
North Linden is transforming from an overlooked Columbus neighborhood to one of the city’s fastest-growing areas. Over the past decade, community organizations, the city government and private investors have worked to improve the area. You can now find the sprawling Linden Community Center and Central Ohio’s first rapid transit line. Downtown Columbus is about 6 miles away.

Community organizations and private investors are improving homes
“North Linden is definitely one of the highest appreciating areas in our city,” says Jason Hottle, Realtor and founder of Modern Ohio Realty, who has been selling in the area for over a decade. “It was an area of blighted, vacant blighted properties for a very long time and through pretty significant focus by the city, tax incentives and other things, it is one of the most affordable neighborhoods in Columbus.” Organizations like Habitat for Humanity - MidOhio and the community-led One Linden have helped renovate many of the homes from the early to mid-1900s. Craftsman styles, Dutch Colonials and ranch-style homes make up many of these older properties, and there are some newly constructed cottages. Prices for a single-family home can range from the mid-$100,000s to the high $400,000s, depending on size and condition.
Even with the many renovations done across North Linden, you can find some homes that need a lot of work. “Definitely, these northeast areas represent a lot of opportunities for investors,” Hottle says. Many of these properties cost less than $100,000.

North Linden is part of the Columbus City School District. While schools generally rate lower than those in Worthington or Bexley, there are some stand-out programs. The highly rated Columbus Alternative High School, located in North Linden, has both the Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs. The district offers school choice through a lottery system.

Major roads and a rapid transit line lead downtown
The neighborhood is well-connected with major roads like Interstate 71 and Cleveland Avenue. “The proximity to Clintonville is also a big draw,” Diaz says. “In fact, I’ve heard a few people refer to North Linden as East Clintonville.” Downtown Columbus is about a 10-minute drive. “Because the area historically had lower-income folks who may be less reliant on automobiles, the Cleveland Avenue corridor has really focused on improving the public transit where there are express routes, tech focused infrastructure and improved traffic flows,” Hottle says. CMAX is the first rapid transit line from the Central Ohio Transit Authority. One Linden has also been working on improving the walkability of the area by adding new sidewalks and streetlights along some of the main thoroughfares.
A railroad truss bridge spans the Scioto River near Downtown Columbus, along North Linden commuter routes.
The Olentangy River marks Clintonville’s western edge, while North Linden lies east beyond rail lines.

Locals find recreation and resources at the Linden Community Center
The work done to improve North Linden extends to its parks and recreation, with a new community center and green space. “The city resources are pretty strong there,” Hottle says. Options include:
Linden Community Center, which has amenities like a gym, kitchen and on-site partners who offer social services and programs for all ages
Linden Park, next to the community center, includes multipurpose fields, a fishing pond and a sprayground
Audubon Park, one of the many pocket parks throughout the neighborhood
There is one more project in the works. The Linden Green Line is a proposed green space that will span 58 acres, replacing an abandoned rail corridor. It will be a walkable and bikeable area that connects to schools, parks, community centers, and over 130 miles of trails. “It really could be transformational for that area,” Hottle says. “It's worth talking about because for an area that's just like polka dotted with a couple little small parks, a really long seven-mile linear park along a railway is going to be a huge asset.” It is still in its early phases but is expected to be completed in 2029.

Groceries and restaurants are along Cleveland Avenue
Shops, restaurants and other businesses are clustered along North Linden’s major streets. You may recognize Ena’s Caribbean Kitchen on Cleveland Avenue from Guy Fieri’s “Triple D Nation.” It is down the road from the Northern Lights shopping center, which has a Saraga International Marketplace. Both fast-food chains like Dairy Queen and local eateries like Florin Coffee are along Oakland Park Avenue. Within minutes, you can be dining at one of the many restaurants The Uptown District.

I personally haven't had any issues. My boyfriend's little brother has been jumped a couple times, and my boyfriend has had a gun pulled on him and almost got robbed walking down the street. But on campus isn't quite as bad add where I am, I'm close to campus but about 10 minutes away, so campus sees people from my hood a lot.

There are gas stations, restaurants, Kroger's and simple places like that around. I only rated it as okay because the area is missing big things such as a mall, though it is like one 15 minutes away. It does not have Wal-Mart, Target or Meijer within a 5 mile radius I would say or if so Target is just inside that 5 mile radius.
