Downtown Columbus is divided into three main districts and is home to some of the largest buildings in the city. Although there are several apartment complexes and condominiums in this area, it is best known as a center for academic and commercial development. For a more historic atmosphere, Italian Village, Old Oaks and the Brewery District have retained much of their European roots. Woodland Parks combines these two worlds, offering everything from small studios and penthouses to spacious Tudor and Victorian homes. If you prefer to be close to the Scioto River, however, Franklinton lies just west of Downtown. Communities in the University District, such as Dennison Place and Indianola Forest, are a popular choice for students as well.

In terms of economic diversity, Columbus was ranked one of the top cities for business by Forbes magazine in 2013 and holds a large stake in many well-established industries, from banking and aviation to fashion and hospitality. Research and educational facilities, such as the Battelle Memorial Institute and Ohio State University, employ a significant number of residents as well. Other national powerhouses located in this region include JP Morgan Chase, NetJets and Chemical Abstracts Service, all of which have a reputation as top local employers.
