With a city motto, "The Valley of Opportunity," many San Diego residents love calling El Cajon, California their home. This area of Southern California is home to nearly 100,000 residents. There are a variety of homes for sale in the region, making it a popular destination for homebuyers. Some of the homes are smaller and more affordable. Others are larger in size and ideal for large families. El Cajon also has some luxury residences with beautiful views.

El Cajon resides in the valley of San Diego County, and it is surrounded by mountains. It is often referred to as "The Big Box." This is because the valley boxes in the city. Since the city is further from the coast than other locations in the county, the temperatures can get hotter during the summer. El Cajon also experiences cooler winters. The area was originally home to Spanish residents. During the Mexican-American War, the land grant for the area was acquired by the United States. In 1912, the city was incorporated. Today it is home to a variety of individuals including Whites, Blacks, Asians, Filipinos, and Chinese. Several households in the area have children living with them, and there is a good portion of retired citizens.

It is common for people to commute to work, particularly to San Diego. However, El Cajon is home to a variety of employers including Parkway Plaza, GKN Aerospace Chem-tronics, Target, Taylor Guitars, and Country Hills Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. Children and young adults that live in the city usually attend school. There are several elementary schools and multiple middle schools. El Cajon also has six high schools and five colleges. Interestingly, several major league baseball players are from the area, including a few members of the Boone family. Although the majority of residents are not professional athletes, many do participate in the recreation programs. There are opportunities for organized adult sports and various recreational facilities where people can exercise. El Cajon also has specialized recreation for the senior citizens in the area. In addition, there are numerous parks and playgrounds for children to use. In many instances, these parks are used for sporting activities such as soccer, basketball, and baseball. The recreation of the town enhances the community feel of the area and makes El Cajon a great destination for homeowners. With the appealing home prices, it is not surprising that this area is preferred by so many.
