Why Live in Shearman Park

On the western side of an Army base is Shearman Park, a small military-minded community in El Paso. Business route U.S. 54, also known as Dyer Street, borders the opposite side of the neighborhood. "In the northeast [part of the city], there's a lot of military, retired or active. And Shearman Park, it's very close to Fort Bliss," says Linda Bastraw, an El Paso native as well as the broker and owner of Linda Bastraw Realty, LLC. The area also has industrial spaces with manufacturers like Dyer Industrial Park. "Shearman Park is an older neighborhood. People may move out here for the cost because it's going to be a little less expensive. They're also older homes, and some people like that," Bastraw says. Most dwellings in Shearman Park are single-story ranch-style houses built between the late 1970s and the 1990s. "There's nothing new in the area. It is pretty built out, and there are no lots here," Bastraw says. Homes entering the market tend to have renovations such as new roofs and upgraded interiors. There are also manufactured homes in the northern corridor of the community. Home values sit below the metro and national averages. Residences tend to range in price from $125,000
