Yonkers is Westchester's largest city, lying just north of the Bronx. Yonkers has a rich and long history, and hosts one of the country's oldest Saint Patrick's Day parades. Italian American and various Slavic neighborhoods also lend to the cultural and culinary diversity. White Plains is the county's seat, and is home to approximately 60,000 people. It is a relatively affluent city with many neighborhood parks and both public and private golf courses. Towns such as Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown and Peekskill offer quieter more scenic lifestyles within view of the Hudson River. These locations are rich in Dutch American and literary history, with many historic sites to explore. Closer to the mountains and deep amidst the maples and oaks that produce stunning fall foliage lie the towns of Pound Ridge, Goldens Bridge and Bedford Hills.

Bordered by New York City, the Hudson River, the Catskill Mountains and Connecticut, Westchester County serves as a bridge between several worlds. With easy access to city lights, excellent universities and pristine natural landscapes, it's little wonder that it is such a sought after place to live. While detached, single family homes can easily soar straight past the $500,000 mark and well into the millions, Westchester County offers an increasing number of affordable 2- and 3-bedroom townhouses under $500,000.
