Located about 19 miles east of Los Angeles, California, Hacienda Heights is an unincorporated community known for its beautiful vistas. It also has a wide cost range for housing. Over 54,000 people live in its 13 constituent neighborhoods, which cover a little over 11 square miles. Home prices range widely, going from around $140,000 to over one million dollars.
Having a good mix of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs, ethnically diverse Hacienda Heights predominantly employs managers, office workers and other professionals. Many families with children reside here, which makes it a family-friendly place to live. The overall crime rate is lower than average for the nation. Educated adults, in combination with the excellent schools in the area, make for a more academically successful population. Over 35 percent of the residents have a bachelor’s degree or higher.
Noted for having some of the best weather in the world, there are many outdoor activities and events happening in and around the community. For fun, residents can visit nearby Disneyland in Anaheim, the Santa Ana or Los Angeles Zoos or go whale watching at Newport Landing on the coast. Locally, you can choose between museums, art galleries, professional sporting events and any kind of water sports you can imagine. The Hsi Lai Temple is a prominent landmark and one of the largest Buddhist temples in the nation. Reflecting the style of ancient Chinese gardens, statues and monasteries, the temple covers 15 acres. Six local parks also provide an escape from rush hours and indoor lighting. Every year, the community hosts the "I Love America" Independence Day parade, complete with a battle of the bands event between competing local high schools. Hacienda Heights has a new Community Center with a large multipurpose room and a performance stage. This venue can be used for large gatherings such as wedding receptions, seminars and community group meetings.
