In San Antonio’s Far West Side, Westpointe East is a suburban area featuring master-planned communities such as Fronterra at Westpointe, Trails at Westpointe and Bison Ridge. They are among several recent housing and commercial developments replacing undeveloped farmland in the Far West Side as the city continues to expand. “They’re building a lot of these master-planned communities to attract that population growth,” says Tre Serrano, a Realtor with the Cavalry Realty Group. “The top reasons why people move to San Antonio are the affordability and the military.” The military facility of Joint Base San Antonio includes the Lackland Air Force Base, less than 15 miles from Westpointe East. Residents are also a few miles west of Loop 1604, a major highway that encircles San Antonio and facilitates commutes throughout the city and beyond.

Neo-traditional homes are the norm across Fronterra at Westpointe, Trails at Westpointe and Bison Ridge. The newest offerings are in Bison Ridge, where construction is currently underway as of late 2025, and buyers can choose between quick move-in or build-to-order options. Housing options across the three communities include a mix of single-story and two-story properties with three to five bedrooms, some of which have elegant arched doorways and windows. Residents also enjoy attached garages and fenced-in backyards with enough room for a small patio or pool. For those seeking more privacy and security, Fronterra Estates offers a gated community within Fronterra at Westpointe. Prices across these developments typically range from $330,000 for smaller three-bedroom homes to $650,000 for larger four or five-bedroom builds, although some properties can fetch upwards of $700,000. HOAs require residents to pay dues ranging from approximately $45 to $100 a month. Westpointe East’s overall CAP Index Crime Score is 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.

All three master-planned communities have amenity centers with outdoor pools and playgrounds. The play areas in Fronterra at Westpointe and Trails at Westpointe have shade structures that keep them cool during hot summer months. Fronterra at Westpointe also has a clubhouse where neighbors gather for community events. For golfers, the nearby Golf Club of Texas offers a public 18-hole course. Residents are also about 10 miles from the nature trails at Government Canyon State Natural Area and 3 miles from the attractions of SeaWorld San Antonio.

San Antonio International Airport is located just over 20 miles away, and healthcare is available in Westpointe East at Westover Hills Baptist Hospital.
