Madison Heights’ local culture, along with its diversity, is perhaps best expressed through its dining scene. Madison Heights has been home to its own “Little Saigon” since the late 20th century, and the city is known for its large selection of authentic Vietnamese cuisine at restaurants like Pho Hang and Pho Tài. Madison Heights makes a difference

During Restaurant Week, residents will go around to different restaurants to support local businesses. At Movies in the Park at the Civic Center, residents can enjoy flicks under the stars. Madison Heights also hosts a volunteer-run food pantry run, where some committed volunteers contribute their own money and put in 40 hours a week to keep the community fed. Other annual events include two-mile Memorial Day parades and annual Festival in the Park events drawing nearly 10,000 people to mingle for a summertime music and food event at Civic Center Park.

Madison Heights is known for its well-maintained parks, which are also full of things to do. From riding dirt bikes at Rosie’s Park to playing a game of soccer at Red Oaks Youth Soccer Complex, there's a place for every outdoor adventure. Furry friends can release some energy at the Dog Park. Residents can also explore the Red Oaks Nature Center and learn about native wildlife and walk alongside their 1.5-mile trail. Moving around in the Mitten State

Located 12.8 miles from Detroit, Madison Heights offers residents proximity to two significant interstate highways. While Interstate 696 provides easy access to Metro Detroit’s other suburbs, as well as to the Detroit Zoo, Interstate 75 provides direct access to downtown Detroit within a 13-mile and approximately 20-minute drive. The city also offers an Active Adult Center transport system for residents above 50 who do not have their own transportation options.

Madison Heights is served by the Madison Heights Police Department, which reported 68 violent crimes and 535 property crimes in 2022. The violent crime rate of 2.51 per 1,000 residents is well below the national median of 4 and the state average of 4.61, although its property crime rate of 19.09 is slightly above that of Michigan and in line with the national median of 20.
