Newnan, Georgia, is a rapidly growing small city southwest ofAtlanta. Located in the heart of the Deep South, the city has a rich history. It was mostly untouched by the Civil War because of its Confederate hospitals, so significant amounts of antebellum architecture still remain. These pre-war plantation style homes are intermixed with a large proportion of newer modern homes, giving a variety of options to the city’s residents.
One of the most popular areas of Newnan is the Dunaway Gardens/Roscoe neighborhood in northern Newnan. The top-ranked public schools, low crime rate, and strong sense of community make this area ideal for families. The neighborhood sports an abundance of recently built single-family homes. Other family-friendly areas include Raymond in the southeast corner of Newnan and Dresden along the western edge of the city. The Madras/Lakehills neighborhood has become a mecca for retirees looking for a quiet, relaxing place to live. Located in central Newnan just north of the city center, this area offers high safety ratings and a variety of housing options. Newnan also features a historic downtown area complete with local cuisine, specialty shops, and picturesque buildings that date to the 1800s. Those who enjoy a more transient feel, with lots of change and people coming and going, while also thriving on the beauty and history of a small Southern town, need look no further than Newnan’s city center.
Newnan’s job market is quite diverse. There are a large number of residents employed in various computer and math related jobs as well as executive, management, and sales positions. Manufacturing and labor occupations also have a strong prevalence. Yamaha Motors and Frito-Lay are both notable names with a manufacturing presence in or near Newnan. The nearby major city of Atlanta offers an additional large job market to those willing to make the 40-mile commute.
