OKC’s newest development

There's a buzz along the banks of the Oklahoma River as a new opportunity offers investors and incoming creatives a unique way to make their mark on the Modern Frontier. Oklahoma City’s Scenic River Overlay Design District project seeks to bring new residential and commercial activity to an already-popular area within walking distance of Scissortail Park and the Oklahoma City Convention Center, and neighboring OKC’s most used thoroughfares. With approval from the Riverfront Design Committee, those interested will be able to purchase land and design a home in a planned urban subdivision.

Riverside breweries, shopping and more

When it comes to shopping and dining, current and future Riverside residents have their druthers. They’re minutes from Bricktown, OKC’s eclectic restaurant and boutique shopping center. Brewery fans are in luck, since OKC’s best options like Anthem Brewing Company and Social Capital beer garden also surround Scissortail Park. After a day exploring these vast grounds, locals can grab a quick, yet colorful and fun meal without even leaving the park limits at Spark.

The smell of local vendors and sound of music wafts through the air each Saturday from April through October as the park hosts its popular farmer’s market. Besides this locally sourced option, there are Walmart Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets within 6 miles to the north, south, and west of Riverside.

Incoming: Riverside subdivisions

Brand-new urban infill subdivisions like Strawberry Fields will join the single-family or duplex homes that are still standing in Riverside. These date back to the mid-20th century and are made of sturdy brick construction but need repairs and investment to be fit for living. Those looking for a clean slate have plenty of options to choose from, from yards between existing homes to lightly wooded larger swaths. Prices for land here range from $120,000 all the way to $750,000 for half an acre in a prime location near OKC attractions.

Neighboring vast Scissortail Park

Riverside residents are at the crossroads of urban innovation and outdoor fun, what with Scissortail Park so close by. This 70-acre expanse creates a third space for the OKC community to gather. Its two halves are connected by the Skydance Bridge, and are complete with several sport courts, a dog park, a playground, an event stage, and even an outdoor roller skating rink. The famous OKC Ferris wheel makes for a scenic skyline and a fun excursion.

At the epicenter of OKC events

Along with their weekly farmers market, Scissortail hosts outdoor concerts at Love's Travel Stops Stage and Great Lawn. Locals gather on the grass to sing, dance and connect with their community. Being so close to downtown Oklahoma City means locals can also easily get to the Paycom Center for live music and Oklahoma City Thunder games.

Getting an education in Riverside

Kids living in Riverside can start their education strong at John W. Rex Charter Elementary School, which earns an A from Niche and teaches prekindergarten through eighth grade. After traversing the two John Rex buildings, kids move up to one of the high schools located in OKC. Nearby Southeast High School earns a C-plus, while the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics earns an A-plus and nurtures students who show promise in the scientific and mathematical fields. Several private education options also sit near the growing Riverside community.

From Riverside to downtown OKC and beyond

Current Riverside residents take the famous Skydance Bridge to walk over Interstate 40 and access the rest of the city or drive about 2 miles. As growth continues, the area is looking to maintain its walkability – but with its proximity to Walker Avenue and I-40, drivers also have an accessible route to their destinations throughout the city and beyond. EMBARK bus stops also line the streets of Riverside, and the OKC Streetcar takes locals to the northeast corner of Scissortail Park for a day of fun.

Locals can reach INTEGRIS Health Southwest Medical Center in about 2.5 miles or take flight 10 miles away at Will Rogers World Airport.

Getting approval to build in Riverside

Those looking to build in a Riverside subdivision need to submit a Certificate of Approval to the Riverfront Design Committee. The community evaluates not only incoming homes, but community boosting and beautifying projects like murals, monuments, public art, bridges, and more.

Riverside is also home to the Latino Community Development Agency, a nonprofit that works to get folks situated in Oklahoma City with services ranging from mental health assistance to bilingual childcare.
