Frits Loonsten was one of this country's finest landscape architects. In 1978, he went beyond the landscapes and gardens that had garnered such praise. At the behest of a prominent Indianapolis surgeon who had admired his work, he designed a home that incorporated elements of his Dutch childhood. 4301 Cold Spring Road, was sited on three acres of property in the Wynnedale area with expansive views of the White River valley below that had previously been a part of the adjoining estate. The use of wood, in various forms, was said to have taken him back to the Netherlands.
