About This Home

As of March 2014

The Home was designed and built by the owners with energy efficiency as a goal. They wanted a small well insulated structure balancing durability, ease of maintenance and simplicity. They put an emphasis on function over fashion and sought to avoid wasted space. The lower floor of the house features a five inch concrete slab with hydronic tubing in it allowing hot water to heat the floor. The slab is thermally isolated from the perimeter foundation and insulated underneath as well. There is hydronic tubing under the wood subfloor on the second floor but they have never used those circuits as the house gets warm enough, using the lower floor heat circuit only. The walls in the main part of the house are eight inches thick .( built with double 2X4 studs with a 1 gap between them.) The wall is insulated with cotton batt insulation. Even the door and window headers are insulated box beams. The house does not change temperature easily. Outstanding property, fully usable
