It will all depend on how low your credit score is and what is considered bad credit. If you have bankruptcy, liens or judgments it will certainly be difficult to rent. However if you are in a chapter 13 and paying on time creditors are willing to work with you to help you reestablish credit. The best thing to do is to to try individual home owners and even apartment complexes explaining your situation up front. You may be surprised that there will be someone willing to give you a chance. Bad things or circumstances can happen to good people. Don't give up.

It may actually be easier to purchase a home. Some mortgage lenders like ours go down to a 580 credit score.

Usually an apartment complex is more lenient on credit. If you can write a letter explaining things it helps. Try and individual home owner that is offering to rent. They don't usually pull credit. Property management companies will.
