Joseph and Florence Mandel Jewish Day School, better known as Mandel JDS, is Cleveland’s only Jewish community day school. Mandel JDS is a member of the Independent Schools Associations of the Central States, which has commended it for excellence in general and religious education. Located on Shaker Boulevard in Beachwood, Ohio, it was founded as the Agnon School in 1969 and was renamed in 2015 in appreciation of a generous gift from the Joseph and Florence Mandel Family Foundation. Mandel JDS enrolls 350 students in prekindergarten through eighth grade. Mandel JDS uses Integrated Project Based Learning to encourage in-depth inquiry and student autonomy, build presentation skills, teach students skills for today’s world and how to draw meaningful connections between different subjects. Its early childhood division teaches children the art of asking questions and how to be imaginative problem-solvers. Hebrew language immersion begins at age two. At the elementary level, Mandel JDS students participate in hands-on science, standardized math, computer skills learning, music, art, reading, writing and Immersive Hebrew. Teachers also provide daily T’filla, weekly Kabbalat Shabbat and other Jewish holiday celebrations. In middle school, Mandel JDS offers core content learning as well as classes including creative minds, technology, entrepreneurship, health, Judaics, Spanish, fine and performing arts. Interested boys and girls may participate in competitive soccer, baseball or basketball.

A great school, that has given our children strong foundations in education and Judaics. Our children learned "how to learn", how to study, how to lead, and how to be a mensch. Fabulous teachers and a great leadership team.
