South Carolina residents enjoy 187 miles of Atlantic Ocean coastline. The state also boasts a rich history, a diverse culture and a variety of affordable housing options. New developments are popping up all over the state, with construction styles ranging from Georgian Colonial to country and modern craftsman. South Carolina is also home to some the most spectacular plantation-style properties in the South.

Columbia is the capital and the largest city by population. This central hub is accessible by five interstate highways. Most of the new construction in the Columbia metro is happening outside of town in the areas north of Fort Jackson and around Lake Murray. Buyers can find mostly four- and five-bedroom homes with modest price tags. The Greenville-Spartanburg area to the northwest is also attracting potential buyers. Many new properties in this part of the state come with large parcels of land. Myrtle Beach is a popular resort town down along the North Atlantic coast. Most its waterfront property was developed long ago, but investors are continuing to expand west. Charleston lies on the south coast and is perhaps the most eclectic city in South Carolina. The city boasts some of the best architecture in America. Not much is happening on the peninsula in terms of new construction, but buyers can find some great options up west of the naval base.

South Carolina is a right to work state, and the unemployment rate has been steadily decreasing. It's a big tourist hotspot, but manufacturing is the still the largest industry. Major outputs include tobacco, dairy and livestock products. Average wages are generally lower in the South compared to the North, but this has brought in some big over the last few years. Boeing recently opened up a large manufacturing facility north of Charleston. This is one of only two sites that are currently manufacturing the 787 aircraft.
