Southaven, Mississippi is a smaller city and is also a suburb of Memphis, Tennessee. Located in the northernmost corner of Mississippi, its real estate is relatively affordable, although it varies depending on the neighborhood. For example, Pleasant Hill and Plum Point are affluent neighborhoods in Southaven that have mainly medium-sized (three to four bedrooms) and large homes that are of newer construction (2000 and later). Comparatively, City Center is a neighborhood with lower-priced houses that were mostly built anywhere from 1940 to 1999, and there are fewer new homes.

The city was incorporated in 1981 and it has experienced steady business and residential growth ever since. Its population is almost at 43,000, thanks to its convenient location, quality health care, excellent school system, progressive government, and safe environment. The medium income for Southaven is the highest in the state, and there are more than 1,500 businesses. The top five industries that employ individuals in the area are healthcare, transportation, retail, manufacturing, and education. There are many service and civic organizations that introduce arts and culture to the community, and there are almost 100 church organizations representing a variety of denominations. The local government has a willingness to create a positive environment and is a strong advocate for recreation and parks in the area.

The parks system in Southaven is excellent and allows for a variety of activities. Snowden Grove Park is the largest youth baseball complex in the entire nation, and many major tournaments are held there. The Cherry Valley Complex has walking trails, picnic areas, a dirt bike track, playground equipment, two soccer fields, and three football fields. The newest park is Central Park and it has a big lake for small boats and fishing. There are also 22 other parks throughout the neighborhoods for family fun. The Arena is a multi-purpose facility that has dirt bike competitions, equestrian events, roller hockey, and a skate board park. Just 15 minutes away, Arkabutla Lake offers the perfect place for fishing, sailing, and even hunting. For indoor activities, residents and visitors can check out the DeSoto Family Theatre and the Landers Center, which is the venue for a number of sporting games, family shows, concerts, and even indoor fireworks displays. For a close weekend getaway, Memphis is only 15 minutes away. Graceland, Redbirds baseball games, and the Orpheum Theatre are just some of the varied activities that the Memphis area offers.
