Arabi, Louisiana, a small city with a rich and colorful history, sits just outside New Orleans. Known for its rebellious origins, Arabi separated from New Orleans in the 1880s and has since developed its unique character. The city is home to the largest Domino Sugar refinery in North America, giving the area a distinct sweet aroma. Housing in Arabi ranges from historic pastel-colored ranches and two-story homes to new constructions built post-Hurricane Katrina. The area closest to the Mississippi River, known as Old Arabi, features many of these historic homes, while newer developments are found north of Judge Perez Drive.
Arabi offers a variety of attractions, including the St. Claude Arts campus with artist studios, a park, and the Zeitgeist Theatre. Education in Arabi is served by the St. Bernard Parish school system, with Arabi Elementary and nearby Chalmette High, both of which have high ratings. The city also boasts a community center and planetarium, as well as Pearl Harbor Memorial Park. For those commuting, New Orleans is less than 10 minutes away, accessible via the NORTA No. 84 and No. 86 bus routes.
