One road runs through Wilsons in Dinwiddie County; it’s U.S. Route 460, and the only things along it are farms, churches, a few homes, a gas station and a post office. “People move to Wilsons for privacy, peace and quiet,” says Rhonda Gay, a Realtor with eXp Realty. “It’s very, very rural; people there own lots of acreage.” Wilsons is fairly remote, just over 50 miles from Richmond and 30 miles from Petersburg. The closest place to grab groceries is about 10 miles away in Blackstone, a military town by Fort Barfoot. The median price of homes in Wilsons is roughly $300,000. Sales data is limited since properties here are rarely listed. The neighborhood features many historic residences, like Colonial Revivals and farmhouses built in the early 1900s. Newer homes crop up every so often, typically adhering to classic designs similar to those of the historic properties. “Kids in Wilsons have a longer bus ride,” Gay says. The neighborhood is served by Dinwiddie County Public Schools. Sunnyside Elementary earns a B on Niche and is just under a 20-mile drive from the neighborhood. Dinwiddie Middle, graded C-plus, and Dinwiddie High, graded B-minus, are also about a 20-mile drive away.
