Wheeler Manor was built as a hospital in 1929 and remained in operation through 1989. This national registered historic building was designed by California architect William Weeks in the Mediterranean style. When it was built, it was the only hospital in the state equipped with nurse call buttons in patient rooms. While the hospital had since been converted to affordable housing, the emergency
