Alan was born and raised in Centralia IL, working whenever he could as a carpenter for his father who was the president and owner of DePew and Owen Builders Inc. After finishing high school and college, Alan and his wife lived in Centralia eventually moving to Hoffman IL where they raised their two daughters.
