Why Live in Fallon

Fallon, located in Southeast Roanoke, has faced economic challenges since the closure of the American Viscose plant in the 1950s. Despite these struggles, the neighborhood is undergoing revitalization with the city investing $1.7 million annually until 2025 to improve housing and infrastructure. Habitat for Humanity is also contributing by building new homes. Fallon Park, one of Roanoke’s largest parks, offers numerous things to do, including an Olympic-sized pool, six pickleball courts, and Virginia’s only permanent cyclocross course. The park also features an ADA-accessible playground and a trailhead for the Tinker Creek Greenway, a mile-long trail ideal for walking, biking, and blading. The annual Virginia’s Blue Ridge Go Cross Cyclocross Race attracts cyclists and spectators for a weekend of races and festivities. The Presbyterian Community Center provides essential services such as a food pantry and after-school programs, with plans to expand its facilities by 2025. Housing in Fallon ranges from historical Folk Victorian and American Foursquare homes to newer constructions, though some properties remain abandoned. The neighborhood offers views of the iconic Roanoke Star on Mill Mountain. While shops and restaurants are limited, essentials are accessible at nearby stores like Walmart Neighborhood Market and Dollar General. Fallon is about a mile from both Downtown Roanoke and Vinton, with Valley Metro bus service available.
