Arnold is a primarily residential neighborhood in Rockford, five miles east of downtown near interstates 90 and 39. The area features ranch-style and Cape Cod homes that date from the 1940s to the 1970s. Lot sizes are relatively large, with newer homes concentrated near Newburg Road. Condos built between the 1980s and 2000s are also available. Some Gordon Avenue homes are at risk of flooding. However, the neighborhood’s overall housing market is consistent. Local attractions include the CherryVale Mall, which offers 140 stores, and the Hard Rock Casino Rockford. Diners have plenty of options, from notable spots like Lino’s Italian Restaurant to Chicago favorites such as Portillo’s and Lou Malnati’s Pizza. For groceries, residents have access to Aldi, Schnucks and Valli Produce. Gregory Elementary, Eisenhower Middle and Guilford High School serve the area, and the highly rated Rockford Christian school provides a private option. Although Arnold lacks parks, Mariposa Park and Alpine Park are a short drive away with green spaces and recreational facilities. The Rockford Mass Transit District provides bus service on major roads, and OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center is the nearest hospital.
