On the western outskirts of the Detroit metro area lies the rectangular community of Taylor, Michigan. Affordable housing abounds here, and you will find a multitude of single-family homes as well as condominiums, townhomes and even some apartments. Heritage Park is a desirable neighborhood full of single-family homes with beautiful yards and modern floor plans. Many homes built around the middle of the twentieth century have been updated and offer modern upgrades and mature landscaping.
Named for Zachary Taylor, the decorated military hero who would go on to become the twelfth president, the community is rich in history. The area has seen much in the way of metropolitan expansion and contraction as a suburb of Detroit, and is known for its strong feel of community and robust support of youth sporting and little league programs. The popular Heritage Park, adjacent to the Wayne County Community College, is a major venue for youth sports, such as baseball and soccer. The facility also offers a petting zoo, historic buildings, a catch and release fishing pond, a playground and more. Several other parks and two golf clubs offer residents ample opportunity for outdoor recreation.
The municipality is split by highway 24, which is the main shopping and commerce district. This corridor, referred to by locals as Telegraph Road, is filled with large and small shops, restaurants, libraries and fitness centers. Big-city shopping, dining, and entertainment is a mere 18 miles away in downtown Detroit, which is easily accessible by vehicle or public transportation. Taylor is conveniently located adjacent to the Wayne County Airport and is not far from several large-scale metro parks and wildlife refuges. The Detroit River and the shores of Lake Erie offer great locations for birdwatching, boating and other outdoor recreation. With its convenient location, many amenities, community feel and affordable housing, Taylor is a desirable city for those looking for housing in the Detroit metropolitan area.
