Offering a small town atmosphere between the hustle and bustle of big cities, York, Pennsylvania, boosts a wide-variety of single family homes, town houses, multi-family homes and condominiums. York offers an assortment of homes in an area that still resembles colonial times in many places. Some homes for sale in York date back to the mid-1850s. Brick, stone and stucco exteriors are found throughout this small city, which offers residences in a plethora of sizes such as modest 2 bedroom starter homes up to 5 bedroom mansions on sprawling lawns.

History buffs will be enthralled by what York has to offer. More than a dozen buildings are listed on The National Register of Historic Places including the Laurel-Rex Fire Company House. Constructed in 1878, this 2-story brick building was added to the list in 1976. Another historically significant building is Cookes House, which was built in 1761. It is believed that this house was the temporary home of Thomas Paine when he attended the Second Continental Congress, which convened in York from Sept. 30, 1777 to June 27, 1778. Besides historical sites, the York Little Theatre and the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center hosts many national acclaimed acts such as Kenny G. The York Fair is a staple in the community; its roots can be traced back to 1765. The fair offers rides, games and musical entertainment. Fair performers have included Alabama and Carrie Underwood.

York is relatively close to some much larger cities. Baltimore, Maryland, is about 60 miles south of the city and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is about 90 miles from York, which is home to about 44,000 residents. The Rabbit Transit system operates many bus routes in the city and the surrounding suburbs. Greyhound is available for people who want to go to Baltimore or Washington, DC. Capitol Trailways provides service through Lancaster to Philadelphia and New York City. Downtown York offers many types of restaurants from casual to elegant dining. The city has two farmers markets, which sell a variety of fruits, vegetables and baked goods. There are many unique shops selling art, antiques and collectables. For those who can’t get enough of the outdoors, York offers residents several parks with playground equipment, walking trails and athletic fields. Throughout the year, the parks are a hub of activity, but they really come to life during the summer months thanks to festivals and lunch hour concerts. The city is rich in history and offers many opportunities for entertainment, shopping, dining and recreation. When looking for a place to live, York seems to have it all.
