10 Basic Steps to Painting Cabinets:

    3. Remove dirt, residue, or waxy buildup with a powerful household cleaner or liquid deglosser.
    4. Dull glossy surfaces further with 150-grit sandpaper.
    5. Take a lint-free damp cloth and wipe down any excess dust that remains on the sanded cabinets.
    6. Use quality spackle to fill in any gaps or unwanted existing hardware holes in your cabinets. Let dry completely and then sand smooth and remove any left over dust.
    7. Cover cabinets with a high-quality stain-blocking primer and then lightly sand the surface to remove any brush marks or drips. Let dry completely.

Coat cabinets with a latex or oil based paint using a non-textured roller and brush or sprayer. Sanding lightly with fine sandpaper and then wiping down with tack cloth between coats to ensure a smooth, dust-free surface each time you apply another layer of paint.

    1. Make sure to let each coat of paint dry thoroughly before sanding and reapplying the next coat.
    2. For extra durability, finish off cabinets with two coats of clear, non-yellowing polyurethane.

    No doubt that kitchen is considered the core component of a house and doing remodeling and upgrade will definitely add value. If one prefers to sell its house and lot, then this remodeling method should be on top list for home improvement as it will certainly entice home buyer’s heart and appetite.

    I’ve never understood this, you said all money invested in a kitchen will be returned 100%. So why invest at all if you’re only expected to break even?

    Chris, because it could mean the difference between the house being on the market for weeks versus sitting on it for months. All else aside, if you have two comparable homes and one has an updated kitchen, while the other doesn’t, which do you think will bring a buyer quicker and for a higher price? Most buyers I’ve ever worked with either lacked the vision or the will to tackle a kitchen renovation after purchase, not when the market offered an acceptable option. Chances are the longer the home sits on the market the seller will either reduce the price, the offers will come in lower or both. And to get 100% of your money back on a renovation is ideal, most renovations net less than 100% back, but are necessary to bring the home up to par with comparables.
