Lithonia was founded in the earlier part of the nineteenth century as a hubbub of the granite quarrying industry. This early influence has shaped the architecture and design of the homes in the city and its surrounding areas. Most of the homes in Lithonia are single family homes that were built in the late 1800s or the first half of the 20th century with strong craftsman and Queen Anne revival architectural details. With homes like these, it would be difficult to find something you didn't love about this beautiful smaller city.

When driving through the Atlanta Metropolitan area, if you blink, you might miss Lithonia, a tiny town of barely 2,000 people nestled in the outskirts of Atlanta. The name Lithonia is derived from the words "rock" and "place," appropriate since Lithonia is most commonly known for its abundance of granite. There are in fact plaques around town that refer to Lithonia as the "City of Granite."
