Why Live in Old West Side

True to its namesake, Old West Side is a historic neighborhood in Ann Arbor, Michigan that dates back to the early 1900s. Many homes feature Queen Anne designs and boxy Colonial Revival styles, plus there are some smaller bungalows and larger Cape Cods as well. Residents enjoy local amenities such as Wurster Park, a 6-acre green space with a sandbox, playground and volleyball court. There’s a large hill in the park where many kids go sledding during the winter, and the park occasionally hosts garage sales, walking tours and small gatherings. The Ann Arbor Public Schools system is highly rated, with Bach Elementary, Slauson Middle School and Pioneer High School all receiving high marks on Niche. Many like to watch the Michigan Wolverines play football at the university stadium southeast of the community, and there’s an Amtrak station about a mile away. Local dining options include brunch at Jefferson Market and ice cream at Washtenaw Dairy, with more restaurants, shopping and nightlife just half a mile away in the downtown area. Hill Auditorium is a concert hall that can seat up to 3,500 people for its live shows, plus there’s a farmers’ market every Thursday from July to September.
