Arlington, the fourth largest metropolitan area in the Commonwealth of Virginia, is located on the south bank of the Potomac River and is in very close proximity to Washington, D.C. Condominiums are one of the most popular forms of housing in Arlington, because of their space efficiency, practicality, and affordability in the midst of a bustling city. The condos in Arlington range from one bedroom starters to expansive areas of several thousand square feet. Many of them enjoy views of the beautiful Arlington skyline.
Within Arlington, there are a great many distinctive districts and neighborhoods that each have their own flair and style. Rosslyn, for example, is one of the largest ‘urban villages’ within the city; it even offers views of Washington D.C. There are several dozen different communities in Arlington, some of the most dense by population being Courthouse, Ballston, Pentagon City, and Crystal City. Courthouse is the home of many high-rise residences and also a business district which includes major corporations such as Verizon. Private condos, co-op housing, and apartment buildings are all popular in this area. Ballston is also home to residential areas, though they are interspersed with major retail hubs such as the Ballston Common Mall and attractions like the Kettler Capitals Iceplex.
Though it may come as no surprise that the federal government is the largest employer in the Arlington area, other sectors of employment include health and wellness, education, retail and commerce, technology, research, food services, tourism and hospitality, and professional and business services. By far, the Department of Defense is the largest employer in Arlington, with a workforce of over 24,000. It is followed by Arlington County, the Department of Homeland Security, Deloitte, the Department of Justice, the Department of State, Accenture, the FDIC, and the Virginia Hospital Center. Major companies headquartered in Arlington include AES, Alcade and Fay, ESI International, and Rosetta Stone.
