Rockdale is a suburban community south of Ashland with a rural small-town feel, but it might not stay that way for long. The community has well-regarded schools that are growing, and nearby commercial options along U.S. Highway 60 are increasing. Despite the growth, residents still maintain their social traditions and access to natural areas. Although indoor facilities like Camp Landing have been a welcome addition to the local economy too. "Boyd County has a great school district. People that live out there may never want to move to Ashland because they want more of the country living," says Realtor Alison Christie of Ross Real Estate. "There's pretty good community spirit vibes. Some people definitely want to live in the county and not the city, and they feel pretty strongly about that. But other than that, there's a lot of cooperation between the city and the county." Most students in Rockdale begin school at Summit Elementary, rated B-minus by Niche. Although a few students are zoned for Cannonsburg Elementary, rated C. Schools in Boyd County are undergoing a transformation period as state and county leaders work to distribute millions in funds for new or improved campuses.
