Everybody’s going uptown
Uptown Austin, just west of the Capitol, may slip under the radar in comparison to neighborhoods like the Sixth Street District, but it’s got a lot going for it. “What really sets Uptown Austin apart is the atmosphere,” says Leslie Gossett, a Broker Associate from Kuper Sotheby who has been selling homes in the area for 14 years. “It's quieter than the bustling heart of downtown, but don't you think for a second that it's sleepy. This area is a blend of Austin’s traditional character with a polished, contemporary vibe. You've got peaceful, tree-lined streets just steps away from some of the best dining and shopping in the city.” Residents in Uptown usually prefer living in condos, which usually start at $400,000 for a one bedroom or around $1 million for a three bedroom.

Phoebe’s Diner is a ‘50s-themed breakfast spot, serving up dishes inspired by Tex-Mex cuisine and Southern comfort food like fried green tomatoes and pimento omelets. The Texas Chili Parlor achieved some fame for appearing in Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof, but the establishment is iconic in its own for their extra-hot XXX chili and their mad dog margaritas, the latter being gushed about in Guy Clark’s song “Dublin Blues.” For groceries, Target and West Campus Market are only a few blocks to the north. Plenty of other eating and shopping options can be found in the Sixth Street District less than half a mile to the south.
