Designed in the early 1920s by Frederick Law Olmsted Jr., the neighborhood of Allendale shares its origin story with that of the city’s public transit system. As the trolley system expanded into and beyond the suburbs, so too did Allendale. Later, with the addition of the Hilton Parkway in the 1930s and the 1947 construction of the Edmondson Village Shopping Center, Allendale continued to boom. Today, Allendale is a densely populated residential community in Southwest Baltimore with plenty of history and charm.
