Ridgely’s Delight has a strong community and plenty of history
The birthplace of baseball legend Babe Ruth, Ridgely’s Delight is a downtown Baltimore neighborhood that is a mix of charm, history and action. “It’s a nice historic neighborhood,” says William (Randy) Poist, a real estate agent with seven years of experience selling in the greater Baltimore area. “Lots of trees line the streets, and you get the turn-of-the-century row houses. It’s very walkable. It’s also close to I-95, which is a major thoroughfare.” Along with its ease of access to the surrounding city amenities, this community also boasts an active neighborhood association, which helps to foster a strong sense of community. Providing monthly newsletters, holding regular meetings and hosting small events, the association also organizes social activities like happy hours and movie nights.
Turn-of-the-century row houses line the streets
Ridgely’s Delight lies at the triangular intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, West Lombard Street and Russel Street. Homes in this neighborhood include two- and three-story row houses featuring red brick facades and short concrete stoops. Trees line the streets and arch over the roads, creating a cover of shade beneath the interweaving branches above. Though most houses don’t include lawns, some homes have fenced-in private courtyards, which residents can decorate with benches, plants and outdoor décor. Parking is available but requires a residential permit. Homes with 1,500 square feet or less tend to sell from $180,000 to $300,000, with the average sale price falling around $250,000. For houses with more than 1,500 square feet, prices range from $300,000 to $500,000, with the average price hovering around $350,000.

They’re really popular in the neighborhood.” Another option right inside Ridgely’s Delight is the Caribbean Dynasty Restaurant and Lounge, serving Caribbean fare in a rustic brick building. To access a full-scale grocery store, however, residents will need to travel a bit farther.
