Situated along the banks of the Patuxent River, Queen Anne was once a bustling tobacco port in the 1700s. Though that industry is no longer present, life still revolves around the river in this Prince George’s County community. Locals can fish alongside historic bridges, hike waterside trails, and kayak and canoe among the river’s lush greenery. This natural setting is the area’s main draw. “It’s the countryside,” says Lori Jean Buongiovanni, a Realtor with RE/Max Realty Group who has sold several houses here. “You can stop at farmstands to get food and you’ll drive past horse farms on your way to work.” She adds that Queen Anne is also conveniently located, with U.S. Route 301 on its western edge. “Commuters can get to Baltimore or Washington, D.C., in under two hours. And Bowie has tons of shopping centers, so it’s not completely rural.” Bowie’s earliest homes include ranch-styles from the 1960s and ‘70s. New Traditional houses and Colonial Revivals built between the 1990s and 2020s are also common. The median lot size is 2 acres, with some homes backing up to dense oak forests. Houses often have three to five bedrooms and long driveways leading to one- to two- car garages.
