Why Live in Mount Eden
Mount Eden is a walkable neighborhood with a busy, upbeat vibe in a historic part of the South Bronx. “It’s still one of the affordable sectors of the Bronx, primarily because you have a lot of pre-war buildings that are rent stabilized in that area,” says Jeffrie Pena, the executive vice president of sales at Locqube New York, adding that these multi-unit buildings are known for being spacious. He adds that Mount Eden’s proximity to public transit, Claremont Park and Bronx Care, a major hospital, are other draws. Pena grew up in the surrounding area and has sold homes here for 12 years. He says the neighborhood has changed a lot in recent years, in part because rezoning brought new businesses and housing. “I think that there are a lot of positive changes coming to the area,” he says. “I think it’s going to continue to grow.” He says existing residents have been included in the changes and there’s been an effort not to price them out of the neighborhood.
