Why Live in New Town

Despite its name, the neighborhood of New Town is tethered to Brunswick's oldest communities, settled just north of the city's historic downtown. The residential neighborhood is part of a broader effort from organizations like Main Street Brunswick and the Brunswick Downtown Development Authority to redevelop downtown and its surrounding communities. Older houses are being renovated, and new businesses are coming into town. "The whole area is evolving," says local Realtor Will Duckworth of Duckworth Properties. Duckworth was born and raised in Brunswick and has sold homes across the area for seven years. "While it's changing a lot, it still has its history, making it beautiful and interesting at the same time." New Town's housing prices are lower than many surrounding communities, including the Golden Isles. "The prices in the barrier islands are all so high, and people are coming here," Duckworth says. New Town's narrow streets are shaded by tall, mature oaks draped with Spanish moss. Those trees often shade early 20th-century bungalows that measure between 1,000 and 1,500 square feet and tend to have two to three bedrooms. The neighborhood also features many historic cottages
