New Empire lies in an area that played an important role in the country’s historic silver rush. The neighborhood is a successor to Empire City, an old town that acted as a processing hub for the mined rocks of the silver-rich Comstock Lode. The community remembers its history through institutions like the neighborhood’s Empire Elementary School and the Empire Ranch Golf Course, which still has the 1860s red Colonial-style home of Empire City’s founder.
