In many U.S. cities, living near the airport isn't always favored. But some residents of Oakridge-Greenbrier relish the occasional interruptions of silence as biplanes and commercial jets alike pass overhead to land at West Virginia's busiest airport. Others never hear them at all beneath the canopy of tulip poplars and sycamore trees. Perched above Charleston's downtown and East End neighborhoods, this leafy meander of subdivisions, business parks and wild areas has modernized more than some other hilltop hideaways with easy access to Charleston's core neighborhoods.
