In many U.S. cities, living near the airport isn't always favored. But some residents of Oakridge-Greenbrier relish the occasional interruptions of silence as biplanes and commercial jets alike pass overhead to land at West Virginia's busiest airport. Others never hear them at all beneath the canopy of tulip poplars and sycamore trees. Perched above Charleston's downtown and East End neighborhoods, this leafy meander of subdivisions, business parks and wild areas has modernized more than some other hilltop hideaways with easy access to Charleston's core neighborhoods. "Greenbrier Street takes you to the airport, and there are a lot of nice subdivisions off of that road that are sought after, especially Woodbridge," says Realtor Lisa Eden of Old Colony Realtors. Development began in the early 20th century as Colonial Revival homes slowly dotted the hills and hollers of Oakridge-Greenbrier.
