Why Live in Cheektowaga

Cheektowaga, NY, is a small Western New York town with a long history and a strong sense of community. On the eastern edge of Buffalo, it sits close to many regional attractions and is known for its international and locally owned restaurants, including spots along Walden Avenue. Housing ranges from midcentury homes in Pine Hill and Maryvale on the north side, which tend to be newer and a bit farther apart, to older houses in Bellevue and South Cheektowaga that sit close together on small lots with narrow yards. Property taxes are a concern for some residents, in part because there is little open land left to build on, and the town sees heavy winter weather, with about 188 inches of snow each year. Cheektowaga High has a high rating and ranks among the top schools in the Buffalo area, and Villa Maria College on Pine Ridge Road provides local options for higher education and career training. The town’s Polish roots are on display during the Dyngus Day celebration, which features a parade, traditional food, live music, and playful customs. Interstate 90 runs through the middle of town, and most places are within about 20 minutes of nearby communities and less than 7 miles from Buffalo Niagara International Airport. Walden Galleria mall features more than 170 restaurants and retailers, while Cheektowaga Town Park and Stiglmeier Park give residents access to sports facilities, trails, and sidewalks for walking and biking.
