Clarksville, Tennessee, may be right for you if you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle and settle into a calm community. However, you still have options when it comes to entertainment, employment and recreation. The city is home to several institutes for higher learning, the largest being Austin Peay State University, where Centers of Excellence are maintained in Creative Arts and Field Biology. At the Clarksville campus of Nashville State Community College, students can enroll in degree or certificate programs in business, criminal justice, IT and more, or take general education classes to prepare for a university transfer. Employment is strong in the area. Trane, a heating and air conditioning systems manufacturer, offers the most private sector jobs. Other major employers include Agero Inc., American Standard, SPX Corporation and the Fort Campbell US Army base. The new home market is attractive in Clarksville; many developers help homebuyers pay most of their closing costs. New construction has been hot in communities such as Fox Crossing, Sunset Meadows, Franklin Meadows and Hidden Meadows. The state capital, Nashville, is about an hour's drive southeast. Nature lovers and their families should be sure to visit Land Between the Lakes, a recreation area straddling Tennessee and Kentucky. Tent camping and cabin rentals are available, along with numerous daytime activities like birding, swimming, hiking and biking.
