A historical neighborhood looking to grow
Named after a former equine and auto racetrack in the area famous for holding the first-ever 24-hour automobile race in 1905, Columbus’ Driving Park is located just three miles from the city’s downtown. Located in Near East Side, this area is filled with even more history as it was once a landing strip for a Wright brothers’ airplane. Driving Park is a community that has held onto its roots while continuing to move forward. “There are older generations of families who are selling to a new younger generation,” explains Suzanne Flowers, a real estate agent with Key Realty who is a native of Columbus.
Driving Park has a public library that is easily accessible to area residents.

Historical homes and American elms
Walks through residential areas are made possible thanks to sidewalks that run parallel to each. Found sprinkled throughout front yards are mature American elm and evergreen trees, which share their space with modest landscaping seen in front of homes. Like much of the Near East Side, Driving Park has seen a revival over the last decade. “In Driving Park, there are pockets of homes that haven’t been touched alongside homes being remodeled and updated,” explains Flowers. The community offers diverse architecture, including homes and townhouses built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the American Foursquare, Greek Revival, Tudor, Spanish Revival, and Cape Code styles. Those looking to purchase a home in the neighborhood can expect to pay a range from $180,000 for a two-bedroom home to $395,000 for a larger, four-bedroom remodeled house.
