Residents of the Uptown District live, work and play in Columbus
The lively culture of downtown Columbus is on display in the Uptown District. High-rise condos are on the same block as historic landmarks like the Ohio Theatre and Capitol Square. Living here means you can walk to some of the city’s best restaurants, including concepts from Josh Dalton. You can find fresh air and free events at the Columbus Commons or walk a little farther to the Scioto Mile. There are also several major employers in the area, offering opportunities to live, work and play.

Older buildings with modern amenities attract renters and homeowners
High-rise condos and apartments fill the Uptown District’s skyline, attracting more renters than homeowners. While each complex comes with updated amenities like on-site maintenance, parking and fitness centers, many buildings are over a century old, like The Citizens. This Neoclassical structure was built in 1916.
You can find a wide price range that factors in size, amenities and view. The median two-bedroom sale price is lower than in nearby North Bank Park. Condos under 1,500 square feet usually range from the mid-$100,000s to the low $500,000s. Larger ones can cost between the mid-$500,000s and the low $700,000s, although upper-level units with a better view can start at the mid-$800,000s and exceed $1.3 million. Most complexes have monthly HOA fees that range from $200 to over $1,600.
The Citizen Building was built in 1917 making it one of the oldest structures within the city.

Locals have plenty of restaurants to choose from
Some of downtown’s most popular eateries are in the Uptown District, either surrounding Capitol Square or on the bottom floor of condo complexes. You can:
Enjoy a fine-dining experience at Veritas.
Eat at Columbus’ oldest restaurant, the Ringside Café.
Try the fresh, handmade pasta at Speck Italian Eatery.
Order a coffee or cocktail from Black Kahawa Coffee.
Pick up a fresh pastry from Three Bites Bakery.
Veritas and Speck Italian Eatery are two concepts from Josh Dalton, one of the city’s most popular restaurateurs. For more options, locals head to the public North Market, which also has a farmers market and local artists.
Carefully crafted cocktails are served at Hank's Seafood in the Uptown District.
Speck Italian Eatery offers delicious and unique Italian inspired cuisine.

Cultural attractions include the stunning Ohio Theatre
After dinner, you can catch a show at the Ohio Theatre, known for its Spanish-Baroque architecture and chandelier. “It’s a good vibe, having the marquee behind you,” says Matt McPeck, Uptown District resident and president of the Downtown Residents Association of Columbus. “It’s beautiful. They lower the big chandelier once a year to dust it off.” This historic venue hosts national tours of Broadway shows and the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA). During the off-season, it hosts the CAPA Summer Movie Series, showing classic films and cult favorites. There are plenty of other entertainment options in the area, including:
The Priscilla R. Tyson Cultural Arts Center, which has classes and exhibits
Urban Arts Space, a gallery from The Ohio State University.
The Palace Theatre, where you can catch live performances.
Locals can also head to the nearby Arena District for a hockey game at Nationwide Arena or the Discovery District to walk around the Columbus Museum of Art.
The historic Palace Theatre in the Uptown District is a 2,700-seat movie palace built in 1926.

The Columbus Commons and Scioto Mile are buzzing with events
You can go to the John F. Wolfe Columbus Commons for some fresh air. “That’s an amazing green space,” says Cameron Walker, public relations manager of Experience Columbus, a marketing organization. “It gets activated throughout the week with food trucks, but during the summer, they have a bunch of different programming.” Some of the events include free fitness classes, movies in the park and free concerts. During the holidays, the park is decorated for Wanderlights.
Residents are also minutes from Bicentennial Park, part of the Scioto Mile, where many of the city’s most popular festivals are held. During the summer, locals celebrate the Fourth of July at Red, White and BOOM! Every June, you can explore work from over 250 artists at the Columbus Arts Festivals.

Residents walk or bike, and rarely need their cars
Like the rest of downtown, the Uptown District is very walkable. “I was coming downtown five days a week and got tired of leaving early to get home...So, I moved down here to be closer to friends and be able to walk everywhere,” McPeck says. “When I come home after work, I park my car, and it doesn’t move until the next day.” Many people also bike or rent a scooter from Veo or Spin. The Capital Line project will further improve conditions for pedestrians and cyclists, with a 2-mile path connecting cultural landmarks like the Ohio Statehouse and the Center of Science and Industry in East Franklinton. It will be finished by 2028.
You can also take the Central Ohio Transit Authority bus, which has stops along most roads, or drive. While parking can sometimes be a challenge, there are public lots and plenty of street parking.

CoGo bicycle racks are posted alongside Marconi street and are available to rent for a small fee

There are plenty of corporate offices in the area, including the headquarters of Nationwide Insurance and Huntington National Bank. According to Downtown Columbus, Inc., over 90,000 employees work in downtown Columbus.
